Founder's Story

From staying awake for more than 5 days in Navy SEAL training, to long hours on deployments, to writing research papers on Sleep Science in Graduate School, Robert has experienced every level of sleep.

In 2017, 

Rob finished the most grueling military training in the world, BUD/S, where is awake for 5.5 days, enduring the worst imaginable experiences.

Rob completed BUDs class 284, where he sustained a quadruple hernia requiring surgery. He served for eight years where he did two deployments with SEAL Team Seven and became an instructor at Advanced Training Command. He was medically retired after a back injury but had multiple other "hidden" injuries. Those included Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI),Obstructive Sleep Apnea and Insomnia. Robert tells the story of using Ambien to go to sleep and stimulants to wake up. At one point in time he was using NyQuil to go to sleep at night.experienced.

2012

In 2017, 

After the loss of Rob's teammate, SO1 Ryan Larkin, Rob dedicated his life to sleep. He wrote a sleep pod Patent and designed a deployable sleep pod for his brothers in the SEAL teams.

This is the first concept for miltary sleep pods

2018

Robert is accepted to the University of California San Diego, where his team received a number of accolades for his concept of sleep pods.

2018

Robert put this technology into a civilian design - The Virtual Sleep Environment - A fully immersive Sleep Pod that can control your circadian rhythms.

2019

Rob invented the Sleep Frog, a circadian rhythm device that anyone can use.

2020

Rob was not satisfied with the limitations of technology, so he travelled the globe in search of the answer to sleep. This lead him to the Amazon to live with Native American Shamans.

Rob continued his journey deep into the Himalayan Mountains to learn relaxation techniques from Monks (similar to Wim Hof).

When Rob returned, he used what he learned from his research and exploration to create the 62romeo sleep program. The initial pilot study was an instant success. Since then Rob and his team have graduated hundreds of students and help thousands of people, primarily Veterans and First-Responders.​

2023

​​Rob was named the "Sleep Genius" after helping a cohort of active duty Navy S.E.A.L.s in the 62romeo program. Since then he has taken on private clients for Sleep Coaching and Keynote Speeches.​​

2024

​​Rob spends most of his time Sleep Coaching and empowering others to teach sleep science in their circles. Recently, he acquired Happy Canyon Ranch near Telluride Colorado, where he is hosting retreats to help people get back into balance.

In August, Rob was awarded the American Flag from the 9/11 Memorial at Ground Zero in Manhattan for his work helping Veterans and First-Responders.

​​The Sleep Genius Team and 62romeo are scaling up to address the millions of people across the world struggling to get sleep at night. The Sleep Genius App is now the focus of all resources, where people can find active forums on sleep, engage with sleep scientists and take sleep courses.

Since Rob left the SEAL teams, he has dedicated his life to the service of others. After losing his friend, Ryan Larkin, to suicide, he committed himself to the study of sleep and human performance.
